The best movie review YouTube channels
Most film content on YouTube is not criticism, it is reaction: a face in the corner, a verdict in the first minute, a thumbnail with an arrow pointing at a spoiler. It works because it is quick, and it leaves you knowing whether a stranger liked something without knowing anything about the film.
The channels here have an argument. Some are video essays that spend forty minutes on one idea and earn every one of them; some are fast reviews from someone whose taste you can calibrate against over time, which is the only thing that makes a reviewer useful; some go deep on a single era or genre. Why these made the list
The line was between a review and a verdict. A channel had to explain what a film was trying to do before saying whether it worked, and had to be willing to like something unpopular in public. Spoiler discipline mattered: the reviews here say when a video assumes you have seen it. Anything built on outrage over a casting decision was left out.
Questions
Will these spoil films for me?
Some will, by design, and the review says so. A forty-minute analysis of an ending cannot avoid the ending. Where a channel keeps its main reviews spoiler-free, that is noted too.
Is this only about new releases?
No. Several of these are at their best on films that are decades old, which is where a good critic has room to say something that has not been said fifty times in a week.
Do they cover series as well as film?
Yes, and each card says which. The two need different critical habits, and a channel that is excellent on a two-hour film is not automatically worth following through eight hours of television.
